Hugh Canard joins Lincoln Ventures Ltd
Hugh Canard has joined Lincoln Ventures Ltd as its Environmental Group Manager. Hugh has a passion for the sustainable development and use of our water resources.
The Environmental Group conducts groundwater and vadose zone(1.). research to understand agricultural land use impacts on water resource quality and quantity. The team also specialises in water resource management, particularly for regional councils. The Group has scientists based at the head office in Lincoln and in Hamilton.
Hugh has been intimately engaged in national water issues for a number of years, firstly as an expert witness in Water Conservation hearings and the Environment Court. The Canterbury Strategic Water Storage Study followed, then the Canterbury Water Management Strategy Steering Group, and currently he is a member of the Canterbury Regional Water Committee. On the national scene, Hugh is a member of the Land and Water Forum Small Group and has chaired the sub group developing the recommendations on rural infrastructure and water storage.
In the past few years Hugh has undertaken a number of diverse contract and research positions in functional foods, economic development and tourism in Canterbury, the West Coast, and elsewhere, while maintaining his abiding interest in water issues.
Hugh has been a keen canoeist and kayaker for many years and is actively involved with Whitewater New Zealand . He recently featured on the Prime TV series “Rivers” which screened last year and again this year.
